FAQ
Just what exactly is a co-op?
At its most basic, it’s a legally incorporated organization that is owned by its members. In our case, we’ve formed a glassblowing co-op to democratically provide access to both a hot shop and a cold shop studio.
Where are you located?
957-C Gladstone Ave, near Preston St. (in Ottawa, Canada).
How can I contact the co-op?
You can email us or reach out to us through our website.
Can I take classes without being a member?
Definitely! We offer classes to both non-members and members. Take a look on our website.
Do you offer Group Class Bookings?
Group Class Bookings offer a fantastic choice for a range of interests, including birthdays, corporate team building, school groups, family gatherings, even bachelorette parties! Learn more here
When can I pick up my item(s)?
We are open on Saturdays from 1pm - 3pm for product pick up. No appointment necessary!
What is the age requirement for classes?
Participants must be at least 15 years old to register for our regular glassblowing classes. However, children ages 7 and up are welcome to sign up as long as they are accompanied and actively supervised by a parent or guardian. Safety first and fun always!
Can you fix my broken item?
While the Co-op itself doesn’t repair pieces, there are a couple of OGC glass artists who may be able to help. We'd recommend reaching out to them directly through our Member Directory to discuss your project and see if it’s something they can do.
I’ve just finished GB2 and I want to keep going!
That’s great to hear! Once you’ve completed 30 hr of instruction you’re welcome to book some Practice Time. This allows you to book time with your partner, supervised by a more experienced co-op member. While membership is not required to participate in Practice Time, it is necessary if you wish to rent the hot shop and cold shop facilities. You can join the OGC anytime you want to, the co-op is open to anyone over the age of 16 with an interest in the art of glass. All experience levels are welcome. Once you become a member you’ll have your own key to the studio and, upon approval and orientation, can book your own rental time.
How can I join?
Just click on Become a Member on our website, or go to the Membership Application form directly to fill out an application.
How much does it cost to join?
There’s a non-refundable $50 (+ HST) Application fee, then after you’re approved you’ll be asked to make a one time $250 Member Loan. The Annual Membership fee is $50 (+HST). The hourly hot shop rental rate is $43.12 (+ HST). There’s more information here.
What does that buy me?
- access to the facility and use of the tools and most equipment
- hot, clear furnace glass (you supply colour)
- bi-monthly hot shop newsletter
- advance notice and early registration to courses
- that warm fuzzy feeling that you get from being part of a community and being around others who are in love with glass as much as you are!
Can I support the co-op without becoming a member?
Absolutely! Thank you so much for your support. You can fill in a Donation form. Please know that as a co-op all funds are used to keep the co-op up and running.
Is there any flamework / lampwork on site?
Sadly, no. There is a flamework / lampwork place nearby: check out Loretta Studios & Gallery, they’re just down the street.
How about cold work?
Yes! We have some cold working equipment too. If you create your piece of art in our hot shop then you are able to finish it in the cold shop. If you wish to work on other pieces created elsewhere, the cold shop rental rate is $20 per hour and you can email us to arrange.
What is your refund policy?
You can read it on our Terms and Conditions page here.
I just want to stay informed. Can you add me to your mailing list?
Sure! Just email us or sign up for our newsletter on our website. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.
