Practice Time

Practice Time (PT) blow slots are for students (members and non-members) who wish to practice glassblowing outside of class time in a fun, supervised environment. 

These sessions are not instructed classes. PT is supervised by an OGC-approved Instructor, referred to as the PT Supervisor, who is there to keep the participants safe. 

• Students should not expect the PT Supervisor to provide instruction; however, if the PT Supervisor notices unsafe actions or equipment/tool use, they will intervene and provide assistance and/or advice. 

• Students wishing to work on safety, equipment/tool use or glassblowing skills with an OGC Instructor are welcome to book Private Instruction through OGC Administration. 

Participants must have some glassblowing experience by completing of one of the following:

1. 30+ hours of instruction at the OGC. This can be achieved through completion of:

1. GB1 (18 hours) and GB2 (16 hours) courses; or

2. GB1 (18 hours) and five 2.5-hour slots of Private Instruction (12.5 hours) 

2. Equivalent experience in another studio. Please contact OGC to discuss your experience and options.

The cost of PT is $250.20 + HST per 2.5-hour blow slot and must be paid in advance by the booking student.

General PT Information

• Students must work in a team of two (or more) and they must find their own partners. 

  • Intermediate and Advanced renters are also welcome to participate in PT or assist a Novice member or non-member during their PT; however, the requirement for supervision by a PT Supervisor remains.

  • The OGC Discord server has a channel to help find partners.

  • Not on our Discord server yet? No worries! Contact OGC to get set up.

• Students must be prepared to explain their experience to the PT Supervisor.

• Furnace glass, tools and safety glasses are provided. 

• Students must provide their own colour, if they wish to use it. 

• The cold shop is available for finishing pieces. Please contact OGC to arrange this. 

• It is prohibited to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If an individual appears intoxicated, the PT Supervisor will ask them to stop working.
